Last week we wrote about the “dark” side of this most beautiful and most dangerous 100+ km highway linking Vancouver to Whistler: the recent tragic accident that claimed seven lives and the Squamish RCMP’s assessement of the five most dangerous sections. We concluded with the assertion (somewhat bold but we’ll stick by it) that the most common cause of the accidents that have occurred in all these areas is excessive speed.

Highway 99, also called the Sea-to-Sky Highway is only spoken of in dramatically contrasting superlatives: the most scenic and the most dangerous drive, certainly in British Columbia and possibly in the whole country. The land through which it travels has a rich history both aboriginal and since European settlement starting in the 18th century.

Asking passengers to help check whether it is clear to pass or turn

Ignoring, disobeying or misinterpreting street signs and traffic lights
